Country/Region/City

Each FISU World University Championship is more than just a sporting event — it’s a unique opportunity to discover a new culture, explore a region, and connect with a vibrant academic community.

This page introduces you to the host country and city for this edition, highlighting their history, key features, and commitment to sport and youth.

Egypt

Egypt is one of the most influential countries in Africa and the Middle East, strategically located at the crossroads of Africa and Asia. Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the east.

With a history spanning over 7,000 years, Egypt is the cradle of one of the world’s most iconic civilizations. Its capital, Cairo, is not only the largest city in Africa but also a dynamic cultural and economic hub. Other renowned cities include Alexandria, with its Mediterranean heritage, and Luxor & Aswan, home to the treasures of Ancient Egypt.

Egypt is internationally recognized for its unique blend of heritage and modernity: the Pyramids of Giza, the Nile River, the Red Sea resorts like Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada, and its vibrant arts, music, and sports scene. Today, Egypt plays a leading role regionally and globally through its growing economy, educational system, and international partnerships.

Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm El Sheikh is one of Egypt’s most iconic coastal cities, world-famous for its pristine beaches, spectacular coral reefs, and vibrant marine life. Nestled between the vast expanse of the Sinai desert and the crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea, it offers breathtaking underwater landscapes and year-round sunshine.

Known for its international peace and youth forums, as well as its world-class resorts, the city reflects Egypt’s long-standing tradition of hospitality and cultural openness. Sharm El Sheikh is a dynamic hub of tourism, adventure, and relaxation—an ideal setting for a major international sporting event.
